I took my son to an athletic sporting event tonight, and after the first half of play he wanted to go home. I thought, “when I was a kid,” put some sugar in my mouth and I was good for at least another shot-clock violation or two. So, off we went to the concession stands in search of something loaded with the white substance that makes us all (legally) feel good. Perfect, right outside our portal we located the cotton candy stand! “Dad, let’s buy those treats” pointing at the air and sugar inflated bags of cotton candy. We exchanged way too much money and then whipped open the plastic. He cautiously reached his hand inside the bag, touched the fiberglass feeling swirls of baby-blue sugar, and hesitantly lifted it towards his mouth — “eeew! Dad, we don’t eat this!” So, being the brave dad, I said, “Look Son, mmmm….sugar!” and put some in my mouth. He still wasn’t convinced, and after a couple of attempts he was adamant, “I don’t like this stuff.”
Well, today I felt like a kid again. Not only did I get all-i-could-eat cotton candy, but tonight when I was looking online, all the shoes that were hot when I was a kid are hot again. Here is a list of shoes that were hot in the mid 80’s and are back with a vengeance! The shoes of the day:
Sperry Topsiders
Vans Authentic
Converse All-Star Ox
Clarks Wallabee
I am going to find a penny for my new loafers and then put in the video tape of ‘Back to the Future‘ See ya in about 30 years Marty.

Obama and Huckabee come out with a win in Iowa Caucuses. However, I found an article about two real
winners in Iowa — they are two second grade teachers and their classes from Walnut Hills Elementary School. Everyone talks about the desire to “change” or to do something about the war in Iraq, but these wonderful young people are really DOING something by helping other children in the war-torn country by sending them shoes. They collected more than 60 pairs of shoes, wrapped them up in Christmas wrapping and shipped them off to Iraq. The complete article can be found here. Nothing says “victory” like a new pair of shoes!
This the shoes of the day “shoe-caucus award” goes to Kami Clark and Robin Julseth!

If there is one place where I want to keep my shoes on, it is at the airport — especially through airport security. At the Seattle airport a few years ago, I was rushing to get to my plane, and forgot to take my shoes off before passing through the security gates. As I approached the the security guard he just starred at my shoes and then pointed at them and said “Sir, please remove your shoes.” I thought I don’t have anything funny in these shoes — so I proceeded, elevated my shoulders and carefully walked through. The alarm didn’t sound, but still the security guard sent me for the full scan. And I had to take off my shoes and they ran them through the x-ray machine.
I just located some great news by a writer from wired magazine, Charley Sorrel. He writes “according to Wikipedia T-Rays, or Terahertz Radiation, can “pass through clothing, paper, cardboard, wood, masonry, plastic and ceramics.” You can now add shoes to that list. Boffins at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Lab have come up with a smaller and cheaper way to generate the radiation, which can be used as a safe alternative to X-Rays (T-Rays are non-ionizing). This means that airports could be equipped with yet more “security” machines, and you, the passenger (read: suspect) will get to keep your shoes on.” I love technology.
So if you want to keep your shoes on, ask for the new T-Ray Scanner or travel to Mexico, you don’t have to remove your shoes there — although they may make you remove your sombrero.

Attention people of New Jersey: Steve Madden wants to talk with you in person! This is your chance to have a “proper conversation” with him. He was quoted as saying “The art of conversation is dying,” he explained. “All those things that force you not to go meet with other people is killing conversation.” Between designing shoes and cruising through his stores, he likes to sit and watch and talk with his customers. “The customers think I’m strange,” he said. “They’re thinking, ‘What is this 50-year-old man doing asking me about my shoes?’ ”
Here are the fast facts for meeting Mr. Madden, the 49 year old shoe-guru.

And Action.
Now you can cook your own shoes! To make the best shoes of the day, follow along closely.
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
2 Toebox-z’s or substitute for plural “toeboxi”
2 Vamps
2 or more Eyelets
2 soles
2 tongues. Cow tongue may taste better. Tenderize to your own liking.
1/2 cup diced grilled real soul
2 Insoles
2 Outsoles
2 Midsoles
2 Heel Counters
4 Toplines
1/4 Quarter quarters
1/4 cup chopped red bell Upper or pepper — you choose, after all these are your shoes.

DIRECTIONS:
- Pam the pan
- Crank heat on range top to med-high.
- Place shoe pieces in a shallow baking pan, skin side up. Combine the melted butter or margarine, honey, mustard, salt and curry powder and pour the mixture over the sole. Cook on the range (or home on the range) for 1 1/4 hours (75 minutes), basting every 15 minutes with pan drippings, until the shoe is nicely browned and tender and the juices run clear, or until all ingredients are melted into one whole. Grab chopsticks, soy sauce and enjoy.
- For best results, test temperature first on your friend’s shoes.

Your final product should look like something like this.* We traveled to SOHO in NYC to the puma shoe store to see the top BBQ shoe chefs and to capture these pictures for your viewing pleasure, Enjoy. See cooking can be fun! Ummm, smells so good!
Sandy, don’t forget the nutter-butter to grease the pan!
*results may vary based on a number of factors. Shoesoftheday.com does not recommend you try this at home. Visit a puma store or Get great brand name shoes at Zappos.com!

I like what Forrest had to say about shoes:
“Momma always says there’s an awful lot you could tell about a person by their shoes. Where they’re going. Where they’ve been. I’ve worn lots of shoes. I bet if I think about it real hard I could remember my first pair of shoes. Momma said they’d take me anywhere. She said they was my magic shoes.” - Forrest Gump.
Here is a picture of the magic shoes of the day: Nike “Air Forrest.”

They can be found on pier39 in San Francisco.
Watch Forrest Run here.
Check this guy trying to out do Forrest: 50 States, 50 days, 50 Marathons?!. Come run with Dean, if you can.
