As a matter of fact, the Hakeem Olajuwon Spalding model was a fully court capable shoe that Hakeem wore regularly, including during an MVP season, 2 NBA championships and his "Dream Team" appearance. Hakeem's shoes were handbuilt on a custom last, but used the same materials as the retail product. These were at the time the most expensive and best quality athletic footwear ever sold in the discount channel with several million pairs sold over a three year period.

Hakeem's decision to lend his name to the Spalding product arose from his sincere beliefs about overpriced sports hero merchandise and his desire to express his "Finish Hard" personal sports philosphy. Starbury and SHAQ discount brands are merely exercises in economic utility with no moral content whatsoever. Neither of these products come anywhere close to offering authentic sports performance to their users.

There are only a few who have ever met Hakeem's standard as a player and not many more who are his equal in character and moral authority. He would never lend his name to shabby, second rate goods under any circumstances.

I'm all on board for these kicks! Of course, when it comes to ballin' it up, comfort and support come first for me but if they pass that test, I'll get them in every color!
