Simple with consummate V’s!

31 08 2007

All I want you to do is simply look at these shoes. Thats right, just look at them. Relax. Now stare. Yes, look at them like you would look at the clouds when you are flat on your back in a nice open field of…okay, wake up! See what you can make out of these Men’s ‘Stich it’ shoes. Now say ‘Stich it’ five times really fast. Wow, didn’t think you could do it, sounds like a beat-box, huh?

I have been starring at my computer screen for about 12 hours today, and these particular shoes are starting to come to life. My mind keeps reverting back to a dragon. Looks like a S-shaped wing-a-ling dragon with a beefy arm to me. Oh, right you might know him as the Burninator! Can you see Trogdor in these shoes too?

Enjoy the shoes of the day, I am going to Walmart.com Phew!

A Real Treat For Your Feet, eh?

30 08 2007

Good things really can come from Canada, eh? Except when you are visiting Montreal, in the French section of town, and you only speak English. When my friend and I were traveling there on business a few years back, we asked our hotel concierge for a recommendation for a fresh, tasty place to grab lunch-because we found the antithesis the day before. In her broken English accent, she explained a “very fine place to eat business lunch.” Oh, she must mean a good place to grab a quick bite to eat.

We arrived at the described local, and we were greeted in French by a gentleman who looked just like Paul Shaffer from the David Letterman show-funny yellow tinted lens glasses and all. As we passed through the entry area and up the stairs, the place was packed! Everyone was dressed in business formal! Oh this must be a great place to eat, even though we still haven’t heard one word of English, and we are extremely under-dressed. Our waiter arrived impatiently and said something in French that sounded like he was talking about day four on the Tour de France. The silence seemed like an eternity as he impatiently awaited our response. My friend spoke up first saying, “Um, I’ll have a Coke” I immediately followed with a “me too.” He must have understood us, as he grudgingly marched away towards the kitchen going to retrieve what we hoped would be, or at least would look like a dark-brown, bubbly soda. Then we opened our menus. Of the 65+ menu items, there was only one thing that my friend and I could read. Something, something “Salmon.” My friend said “I’ll have this” as he pointed to the words that said “Salmon.” Now it was my turn, I panicked and pointed to an item on what was the appetizer menu. I ended up with a small salad and a Coke. We only saw our waiter twice, once with the beverages which turned out to really be Coke, and our food — the salmon which had, as I recall a black bone in it!

I think we would have been treated differently, and ordered food that we really wanted had we been fluent in French and had a pair of these shoes on: Amblesides, black with bone! The shoes of the day, a real treat for your feet.

Fluevog shoes that are pretty dang cool

Amblesides are custom shoes by a new found fellow friend and lover of shoes! It says on the site “The Amblesides are perfect for that afternoon stroll in the park. A great everyday casual shoe with that Fluevog twist we’ve come to love. Made with soft padded and perforated Nappa leathers with a contrasting crepe side strip. Mens only. Whole sizes.” Sorry Bettys, Mens only. By the way, they are on sale.

Let me know what you think, eh?

FiveFinger…discount?

Remember those hot socks in the early eighties? Yes, you nailed it; the rainbow, toe-filling delights? Well, guess what? I just found some that someone has turned into shoes! Except I can’t find them in rainbow color. Right, maybe that’s a good thing! I must admit at first glance, these toe-full shoes are a touch on the freaky side. I can hear it now, “Whoa, are all of your toes in there?” I would like to get a pair, but I must admit that I suffer from the “my-second-toe-is-longer-than-my-big-toe-coolness.” I wonder if Vibram has extended toe sleeves for my “special” toe? If so, done and done. But then I think, would I really like people staring at my feet that much? “Um, sir..what is wrong with your feee…um…those…those are shoes?”

I love to snow ski, and you know how hard it is to try to successfully put your lift ticket on with out any wrinkles or simply buckle your boots with leverage-less mittens! Come on, it is hard to do things with your five fingers when they are bundled together in a mitten! Imagine what your toes can do now, now that they are FREE! This little piggy must be stoked that it doesn’t have to share the same cramped space as the little piggy who ate roast beef. “Phew, I am glad that stench is gone!”

Vibram FiveFingers Shoes

I love the description on the Vibram site:

  • Step 1 Place FiveFingers flat on the floor. Whoa, my hands or my feet?
  • Step 2 Hold heel tab and insert foot while aligning your toes with the five toe pockets. Wait, what about my FiveFingers that are flat on the floor? Wait, I see where they are going with this, I see where they are going now!
  • Step 3 Inch each toe into the appropriate pocket, make sure you have only one toe in each pocket before pulling up the heel. Appropriate pocket? Yeah, no doubt, that would hurt!
  • Step 4 Gently tighten the elastic cord for added security. Pulling the cord too tightly could cause discomfort. Yeah, ya think?
  • + If you plan to use your FiveFingers for activities involving swift water or deep mud, you may want to consider the Sprint or Surge models for a more secure fit during those activities.

This evening I went rafting down the beautiful P-Town river. Yes, the same river not far up the road from the Cirque Lodge, where Lindsay Lohan is rehabbing. The white water wasn’t too cold. However, I think my toes would have been warmer if they were individually insulated.

Tell me what you think about these shoes? Or comment about me floating the same river that Lindsay just rafted. Man, rehab must be rough. Day 1: Rafting in a river. Day 2: Zoo! Day 3: Helicopter rides. Day 4: Bike rides. Day 5: Talk about the addiction. Hey Lindsay, I think these Vibram FiveFinger Shoes may make rehab easier too. “Okay everyone, after you are done counting all your fingers, you can count your toes too!

Thanks Vibram! Thanks, for keeping toes separated, insulated and helping people graduate from rehab!

Anti-Odor Anatomic Footbed - Now do I have your attention?

28 08 2007

Yes please, I’ll have some. Stinky feet, we all know the smell — very similar to pickled-spearmint fish eggs, crammed in ziplock, sitting on the dash of your car, in hot parking lot for 8+ hours. Can I get an ‘Amen’? (Nate, you were there!)

I am pretty Keen on this new foot bed, I mean, my feet are pretty happy. I mean, they don’t stink. I mean, they don’t stink when I wear the “Anatomical ANTI-ODOR Footbed Supremes. Okay, so I added the Supremes, because it sounds like a new Taco Bell product. Hey, just thinking outside the bun!

Shoes of the day?

Cydwoq handmade shoes

27 08 2007

On a business trip to Boston a few years ago, I spotted the most unique shoes that I have ever seen. Nope, I didn’t see these Cydwoq’s on the sidewalk, I found them at the Boston Logan Airport.  After passing through security, I found a comfortable seat on the floor to watch the air travelers pass by.  I purposely position myself on the ground to get a better view of their shoes.  It wasn’t difficult to miss these beauties — take a look;

Finding *New* Balance

25 08 2007

Saturdays give me the opportunity to wear of multiple pairs of shoes. Today I had four different pairs on. The day began on my road bike up a beautiful local canyon. Shoes: Specialized Roadies. (Glad I had my booties too) Next I found myself outside doing some yard work. Shoes: Reef flip-flops. Then it was back up the canyon for a late afternoon hike and pic-nic with friends and family. Shoes: New Balance “Off Road” 872’s. These are the best off-road shoes that I have ever owned: light, breathable and sturdy for the uneven and changing mountain terrain. These are the shoes of the day today: New Balance Off Road 872’s

The day ended by attending a friend’s wedding reception in a pair of brown Banana Republic loafers - extra comfy leather, although the sole is a little hard. Congrats to the New’s.

What did you wear today?

These New Balance shoes are pretty cool:

Vans Off-the-wall; the shoes that deserve to be number one.

Oh the back to school fun! I recall back-to-school shopping in 1986. I did all of my shopping at the local skateboard shop. I remember walking into the local skate shop with my mom feeling well, a little uncomfortable; no, really uncomfortable. Now that I think about it, going into about any store with your mom as a prepubescent adolescent is embarrassing and uncomfortable. “Yep, I will take those”, I responded positively to the sales clerk. “If they are good enough for Lance Mountain, then they are good enough for me!” Wow, my first real pair of shoes that aren’t hand-me-downs! It is to these shoes to which I dedicate the shoes of the day to: the Sk8 high-top, Navy and baby blue with the beautiful white stripe, Vans Off the Wall. These are great all purpose shoes great on the court, ramp, classroom, on a hot date, or any where your feet decide to take you. I like to call them the “Run, Ride, Roll, and Rock and look-better-than-cool-doing-it” shoes.

Enjoy the “shoes-of-the-day”, Sk8-hi, old skool, Vans high top shoes!
